Co-organised by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Vietnam Institute of Educational Sciences and the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO, the conference features the participation of over 150 delegates, who are leaders, policy makers, experts and educators at home and abroad, representatives of educational and training institutions.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc reviewed Vietnam’s achievement in the education sector for the 2011-2020 period, with three important milestones. First, the inspection and evaluation in education has had many changes in the criteria, forms and ways of organizing assessments to help reduce unnecessary pressure on students and teachers, promote motivation and student initiative in learning.
Secondly, Vietnam has revised and improved the structure of the education system, through the issuance of the structural framework the national education system.
Thirdly, most importantly, Vietnam has approved the national general education programme in December 2018 which aims to develop the qualification and capacity of learners and equip them with skills necessary for the 21st century. The programme will be officially implemented from 2020.
However, Vietnam is facing several problems in the programme implementation, including how education can reach and serve all people, how to update curricula and standards to meet development demand in the future, and how to turn learning into a life-long process, he said.
According to Chief representative of UNESCO Office in Vietnam Michael Croft, Vietnam's Ministry of Education and Training is developing a strategy for the next 10 years. Currently, UNESCO, UNICEF and the Vietnam Association for Education are all supporting the Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training to connect experts in many fields to achieve the vision. Vietnam needs to identify key factors to determine education strategies, priority issues as well as budget allocations.
At the seminar, delegates and experts exchanged and shared about the trend of educational development in the world, the strategy of educational development in some countries; discussing approaches, develop educational development strategies and practical lessons to build and implement education development strategies for Vietnam.
