Navy join hands to support fishermen operating at sea

A programme to support the central region’s fishermen while operating at sea has been reached between the Navy Region 3 and the local authorities.

On August 2, in Da Nang city, the Navy Region 3 Command signed a cooperation agreement with the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of six provinces and cities, including Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien - Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai, to deploy the programme during 2019-2020.

It focuses on implementing four main activities, including providing information for fishermen about the relevant legal documents on the sea, maritime boundary division and safe and sustainable fishing, supporting fishermen in distress at sea and performing search and rescue missions.

The programme also targets to protect the legal activities of fishermen and create favourable conditions for fishermen to encourage them to head to sea for their economic development.

Under the programme, the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development, Border Guards Command and the local authorities will encourage fishermen to join the navy to carry out the tasks of protecting the national sovereignty on the sea and islands according to plans and legal documents of the State.

On the occasion, the organisers also handed over gifts and national flags, life buoys and medical kits to 100 fishermen from six provinces and cities from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai.
