The rate is likely to reach 28% at this by the end of this year, heard a meeting held in Hoa Binh province on August 3 to review the10-year implementation of the National Target Programme on New-Style Rural Area Building in the region.
According to a report read at the meeting, the region has recorded significant improvements under the national target programme on new-style rural area building.
Accordingly, more than 28,000 km of road has been built in the region, 100% local communes have joined the national grid, the average per capita income reached VND28 million in 2018, and the poverty rate was cut by an average of 4% per year.
However, the implementation of the national programme in the region has also seen certain limitations in mobilising resources for the work and the capacity of local staff.
Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the central steering committee for national target programmes for 2016-2020, hailed the local authorities and people for their initiatives and creative models in new-style rural building.
He stressed that agriculture, farmers and rural areas are key issues in the national development strategy.
He asked functional ministries and sectors to review the 19 criteria set for the recognition of new-style areas in order to make proper adjustment while providing further support for people in mountainous communes and disadvantaged areas.
He also requested more attention to preserving and promoting cultural values of ethnic groups in the region and environment protection.
