Cold air to cause dangerous weather in northern and central regions

Showers and scattered thunderstorms will appear in the northern region of the country on October 24, with moderate to heavy rain, due to the impacts of cold air, according to the National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF)

Meanwhile there will be medium and heavy rain in some locations in the northern plain and Thanh Hoa – Nghe An region.

From the morning of October 25, rains are forecast to affect provinces from Nghe An to Quang Ngai, with medium to heavy rain and thunderstorms in a number of locations. The thunderstorms will possibly cause whirlwinds, lightning, hail and strong winds.

Inland in the northeastern provinces, northeastern winds at level 2-3 were recorded, causing it to become cold, while some areas in the mountainous region are getting colder.

There will be northeastern winds at level 5-6, and sometimesforce 7 gales, in the Tonkin Gulf. In addition, the northern part of the East Sea will see gale-force winds measuring levels 6-7.

The disaster risks from tornadoes, lightning and hail are forecast at level 1.

* The NCHMF also said that the water level on the MekongRiver and Saigon River will continue to rise in tides and is likely to reach its highest level on October 29-30.

The water level in the downstream stations of the Mekong River has risen to an alert level of 2-3, while the Phu An station of the Saigon River has reached an alert level of 3 and over.

The NCHMF has warned the risks of flooding in low-lying areas along the river in the provinces downstream of the Mekong River and Ho Chi Minh City.
