The building of the intersection worth VND270 billionis under the project on the expansion of the Hanoi Highway and National Highway 1 in District 9 and Thu Duc District which was commenced in April 2016.

The 2km-project includes the expansion of National Highway 1 and the building of two open tunnels, two overpasses and two pedestrian bridges, starting from the gate of the Suoi Tien tourist area to the new Mien Dong Bus Station.

The open tunnel is over 1km long and 36m wide which is designed for eight lanes with a maximum speed of 80km per hour.

The two overpasses have a length of 17m and a width of 38m each.

According to the director of the project on the expansion of the Hanoi Highway, Nguyen Thanh Nam,the intersection has regularly faced congestion due to a high flow of vehicles and is located near the Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City and the SuoiTien tourist area.

The project helps to expand the National Highway 1 from six lanes to 14 lanes, contributing to addressing traffic jams, Nam added.
