In Dien Bien province, frost and thin ice appeared in many high-altitude communes as temperatures dropped steeply. Frost also formed in Lao Cai province, hurting agricultural areas in Y Ty commune of Bat Xat district.
Meanwhile on the early morning of December 8 the mercury dropped to minus 1 degrees on Mount Phia Oac and several communes in Cao Bang province, causing the formation of frost and ice.
Local authorities have advised farmers to take care of their livestock herds, keeping them warm and well-fed.
Also on December 8, thick frost formed in Bac Son, Loc Binh, Trang Dinh and Dinh Lap districts of Lang Son province. Local residents have covered their livestock pens, refrained from letting their cattle graze freely and stock dried food to protect their herds.
Vietnam’s northern region will remain gripped in the cold weather over the next several days with temperatures forecast to begin rising this coming weekend.
