Deputy PM urges better care for the elderly

The Vietnam Association of the Elderly, along with relevant ministries and agencies, should actively and directly remove the shortcomings related to the formation and use of funds as well as the mobilisation of social resources for better care and promoting the role of the elderly.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, who is also Chairman of the Vietnam National Committee on Ageing (VNCA), made the statement while chairing a work session with ministries and agencies to review the work of care for and promoting the role of the old eldely in 2019 and devise tasks for 2020.

Speaking at the working session, the Deputy PM appreciated the efforts made by the VNCA, localities and agencies in care for the lives of the elderly.

He emphasised the necessity of the socialisation and backing of investment from enterprises and organisations into elderly care facilities.

It is also essential to continue to implement preferential policies related to the reduction of train and bus fares and entrance fees of destinations for the eldely, added Deputy PM Dam.

The Deputy PM urged the promotion of the role of the elderly and veterans in advising and supervising the implementation of the guidelines and policies of Party committees and authorities at all levels.

He asked the VNCA, ministries and agencies, in collaboration with the Vietnam Social Insurance (VSI), to develop practical programmes to mobilise social resources, contributing to care for the health of the elderly and ensuring social security.
