NA Chairwoman extends Christmas greetings to Hanoi Archdiocese

Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan visited and extended Christmas greetings to dignitaries at the Hanoi Archdiocese on December 20.

On behalf of the Party, State, and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, Chairwoman Ngan wished a merry and happy Christmas to Archbishop of Hanoi Archdiocese Vu Van Thien as well as the entire Catholic community.

She also conveyed the Christmas greetings and gave a basket of flowers from Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong to Archbishop Vu Van Thien and Catholic followers to celebrate Christmas.

The NA Chairwoman briefed the host on the encouraging results of the nation in 2019 in various areas as well as the enhanced position of Vietnam in the international arena.

She noted that the relations between Vietnam and the Holy See have seen positive developments and Vietnam agreed to establish a permanent resident papal representative to Vietnam.

She also acknowledged contributions of the Catholic community to the national socio-economic development, poverty reduction, and study promotion programmes.

The NA leader emphasised that Vietnam always respects and ensures the right to freedom of belief and religion through the Constitution as well as the Law on Belief and Religion.

She hoped that the Catholic community will promote solidarity to strengthen the national unity and build a prosperous country.

Archbishop Vu Van Thien expressed his thanks to the Party and State leader and the NA Chairwoman, noting that the Catholic community will continue to make efforts to build a peaceful and prosperous country.
