Meetings celebrate founding anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army

The Ho Chi Minh municipal authorities held a meeting on December 22 to salute retired high-ranking military officials on the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of Vietnam People’s Army (VPA).

At the event, the city’s leaders briefed the guests on the socio-economic and cultural development of Ho Chi Minh City.

Addressing the event, Politburo member and Secretary of the city’s Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan stressed that the Party Committee, authorities and people of the city always remember the services provided by retired high-ranking military officials to the cause of national liberation, construction and defence.

He expressed his hope that the guests will promote the spirit of Uncle Ho’s soldiers and make further contributions to the city’s development.

A ceremony marking the 30th All People’s Defence Festival and the VPA’s 75th founding anniversary was held in Hau Giang the same day.

At the event, the Hau Giang Provincial High Command was presented with the National Protection Order, first class, in recognition of the unit’s outstanding achievements and contributions to national defence.

In Kon Tum Province, a delegation of the provincial High Command of Border Guards, the provincial Youth Union, Public Security Department, and Business Association presented gifts to revolutionary contributors, family members of soldiers who are stationed at border areas, and poor students in the province.

On December 21, a statue featuring Uncle Ho and a border soldier was inaugurated in A Luoi District, Thua Thien - Hue Province. The stone statue, which sits atop a three-metre high granite base, measures 1.65 metres in height and weighs 1.5 tonnes. The work was designed by architect Vu Trong Khoi at a total cost of VND60 million (US$2,800).

From December 20-22, a delegation of Thua Thien - Hue provincial leaders visited and presented gifts to revolutionary contributors and Heroes of Armed Forces in the province.
