The event saw the presence of representatives from the World Health Organisation (WHO), medical workers at hospitals and local health agencies, medical experts, among others.
Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long emphasised that Vietnam’s epidemic prevention has never been so strong as it is now as the government has take numerous drastic measures.
Vietnamese scientists also successfully cultivated and isolated the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) in a laboratory, paving the way for developing a vaccine against the deadly virus, Long noted.
“Vietnam is confident it has the technology and sufficient biological capacity to be able to diagnose the disease as quickly as possible”, the health official said.
According to the Deputy Minister of Health, amid the rapidly increasing cases from China, isolation is an effective measure to prevent the epidemic in Vietnam.
Vietnam has been taking drastic measures to isolate suspected patients, people travelling through China’s Hubei region and people travelling from other regions of China to Vietnam.
Vietnam has recorded 13 cases that have tested positive to the novel corona virus, three of which were discharged from the hospital while the remaining patients are in stable condition, according to Prof., Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, head of the Medical Examination Department under the Ministry of Health.
The Health Ministry has instructed hospital to prepare resources depending on the level of the epidemic while directing 700 hospitals at all levels on the method to collect and preserve samples to ensure biosecurity.
At the online conference, hospitals were trained on how to diagnose and treat acute respiratory infections caused by 2019-nCoV, the treatment of respiratory distress syndrome and septic shock in adults and pediatric patients, infection prevention and control in treating patients with suspected 2019-nCoV infection, the way to collect, package and transport samples, surveillance and prevention of acute respiratory infections caused by 2019-nCoV, and others.
Hospitals also shared experiences in treating patients infected with 2019-nCoV.
