Measures devised to prevent and control cattle and poultry diseases

On February 17, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) issued Directive No.1152/CT-BNN-TY on focusing on implementing drastic and synchronous measures to prevent and control cattle and poultry diseases.

According to local reports, from the beginning of the year, dangerous animal diseases such as avian influenza (appeared in Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Tra Vinh), foot-and-mouth disease (Quang Ninh, Yen Bai, Son La, Nghe An, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai and Tien Giang), have witnessed complicated developments with the increasing risk of widespread epidemics.

The MARD requested People’s Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to focus on directing departments, branches and People’s Committees at all levels to implement synchronous solutions to control and handle the out break of any epidemics. If outbreaks are at risk of arising or spreading widely, it is absolutely necessary to publicise epidemics and organise plans against the epidemic in accordance with the provisions of the Veterinary Law.

For localities that are not yet affected by epidemics, it is fundamental to guide farmers to proactively implement key preventive measures; strictly apply technical measures in biosafety breeding, supplement nutrients and minerals to improve resistance for livestock; timely vaccinate livestock to prevent dangerous infectious diseases such as foot-and-mouth disease, avian influenza, blue ear pig disease, rabies, etc.

Importance should be attached to the prevention of the disease in small-scale households, cleaning the breeding facilities, and strictly managing the transport of livestock.
