NDO – Hanoi has set to hold the High School Entrance Exams for the 2020-2021 school year on June 1 and June 2, at the same time as the previous school year.

According to the high school admission plan in the next academic year, which has been approved by the Hanoi People's Committee, the entrance exam to the 10th grade for local high schools is set for the first two days of June.

Although students have been allowed to be absent from school for a number of weeks during the second semester of the current school year to prevent the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) from spreading, the timing for the 10th grade entrance exam has not been changed compared to the previous school year.

It is expected that, in the morning of June 1, candidates will take Literature exam and the Math exam is set for the afternoon the same day, with both tests lasting for 120 minutes. On June 2, in the morning, students will sit their Foreign Language exams, while the fourth exam is planned in the afternoon, both taking 60 minutes.

This year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training continues to organise a common 10th grade entrance exams for all local public high schools.

Candidates take four independent tests, including Literature, Mathematics, Foreign Languages and the 4th test. In which, the 4th test is randomly selected among Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography and Civic Education. The department will announce the selection of the fourth subject exam in March.

For the Foreign Language exam, candidates can choose one among English, French, German and Japanese. Students are also allowed to sit a foreign language test that is different from the foreign language they pursued at their secondary schools.

In the 2019-2020 school year, it is expected that the capital city will have 107,246 students using their academic results to submit for secondary school graduation, an increase of 6,685 students compared to the 2018-2019 school year. About 62% of them will enrol in public high schools.
