Thailand is one of the countries with the highest number of Vietnamese seasonal labourers in Southeast Asia. The COVID-19 pandemic has created a crisis of movement, especially for the working class.
The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has actively implemented citizen protections, disseminated important notices from the homeland and recommended preventive measures to overseas Vietnamese citizens, while asking them to regularly inform and update their situation to the Embassy.
The General Vietnamese Association in Thailand has launched a programme regarding joining hands with the homeland to fight against COVID-19, receiving a positive response from the overseas Vietnamese community and its associations.
After Thailand declared a state of emergency, many Vietnamese citizens were stranded at Bangkok’s Survanabhumi International Airport; the Embassy has been closely coordinating with the authorities of both countries to seek citizen protection measures.
Meanwhile, the members of the OV Association in Bangkok have proactively donated essential supplies to them. In addition, overseas Vietnamese in many localities have supported their homeland as well as their localities in the host country.

The OV Association in Nakhon Phanom Province has deployed meaningful activities.
The border gate No. 3 in Nakhon Phanom Province gathered the most Vietnamese labourers who returned home by road. The OV Association in the locality has deployed meaningful activities to support Vietnamese citizens, while presenting a lot of medical equipment to the province and to Thai functional units.
The OV Association in the northeastern province of Udon Thani have also supported the OV community, the local authorities and hospitals as well as sending cash and medical equipment to the homeland through the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
In particular, the association presented many anti-epidemic items to the Embassy’s officials and employees.
In addition, overseas Vietnamese in Mukdahan Province donated ventilators and medical equipment worth 300,000 baht to the province’s Hospital as well as donating 75,000 baht to the homeland.
Authorities and hospitals in many other provinces, such as Nong Khai, Khon Kaen and Loei, have received the encouragement from the overseas Vietnamese community there.
