The event was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Myanmar Ly Quoc Tuan, Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein, and a number of Myanmar ministers.

Speaking at the hand-over ceremony, Ambassador Tuan affirmed that Vietnam will always share the difficulties faced by Myanmar in the context of the disease.

Lauding the local government’s efforts in COVID-19 prevention and control, the diplomat hailed the gifts as the sentiment and support of the Vietnamese people for Yangon’s administration and residents.

The donations reflect the Vietnamese people’s solidarity with the people of Myanmar, contributing to the development of friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, he said.

Chief Minister of Yangon Region U Phyo Min Thein expressed his thanks for the support from the Vietnamese side, affirming that the contributions are practical as Yangon Region is striving to finalise the construction of a 1,000-bed hospital in the city of the same name.

The donation campaign was launched by the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Businesses’ Club in Myanmar from April 23 to 30. In addition to cash, the organising committee also received material contributions including 7,000 medical masks, 120 antiseptic alcohol bottles and other items.
