He stated that natural disasters have been occurring in a complicated and unusual manner in many parts of the country, especially drought and saltwater intrusion in the Mekong Delta and the central region, and storms, floods, whirlwinds and hail in northern mountainous provinces.

However, thanks to the joint efforts of various agencies, the military and the entire people, Vietnam has managed to mitigate losses of lives and property to restore socio-economic development, said the Party and State leader.

He took the occasion to praise the organisations and individuals who fulfilled the task of disaster prevention and relief in an active, proactive and effective manner in 2019.

Noting that natural disasters will remain abnormal and unpredictable in the future, the leader called on the authorities at all levels, the military and people as a whole to continue joining hands in the disaster prevention and relief efforts in 2020 so as to create a disaster-safe society and work towards the country’s sustainable development.
