According to the Dispatch, from the beginning of 2020, the lack of rain has affected water reserves in the South-Central region and the Central Highlands.

Severe drought and water shortages have occurred in a number of localities. The drought may last until the end of August 2020, with the risk of widespread water shortage affecting the production and living activities of people in the central coastal region, especially in the South-Centralcoastal provinces.

The PM requested relevant ministries, branches and People's Committees of provinces and cities to continue directing and drastically implementing the PM's Directive No.04/CT-TTg, dated January 22, 2020, on the implementation of urgent solutions to prevent and combat drought, water shortage, and saltwater intrusion.

The ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development; Natural Resources and Environment; Industry and Trade; Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs; Health; and Finance, along with media agencies and other relevant ministries and branches, are working to actively direct, coordinate and support localities in coping with droughts and saltwater intrusion in accordance with their assigned functions and state management tasks.
