The city, covering parts of Quoc Oai District, Thach That District and Son Tay Town, is designed to be a high-tech zone that will help ease the pressure of overpopulation in Hanoi and drive socio-economic development in the capital city’s suburban areas.

It will host the Vietnam National University and scientific and technological research institutions which will train high-quality human resources.

Under the plan, Hoa Lac will also be developed as a city providing resorts and ecotourism services to the west of Hanoi.

With an urban core and a surrounding green belt, the population of Hoa Lac is forecast to reach 150,000 people by 2025 and rise to a maximum of 600,000 in 2030 and beyond.
