Speaking at the event, MOLISA Minister Dao Ngoc Dung said that this year’s action month takes place in the context of the National Assembly recently organising high-level supervision over the implementation of policies and laws on child abuse prevention and control, and the Prime Minister issuing Directive No. 23/CT-TTg on strengthening measures to ensure the implementation of children’s rights and child protection.
He put an emphasis on “joint efforts” to protect children and address child abuse and violence, stating that the work is not just the responsibility of ministries and sectors but requires specific and synchronous coordination from socio-political organisations, families, schools and the people.
All units and social communities must act for the sake of children and take care of them in every aspect, including perfecting legal institutions and implementing relevant policies and laws in a strict and effective manner, Dung said, stressing the need to radically renovate communication methods to help children understand how to protect themselves from and resist adverse external impacts, as well as seriously handling acts of child abuse and violence.
Rana Flower, UNICEF Representative in Vietnam, called on people to rethink the country and the world in general after the COVID-19 pandemic, making a place where all children could feel safe, develop optimally and not face any abuse, violence or exploitation.
At the launch ceremony, leaders of ministries and sectors presented scholarships and gifts to 30 children of the SOS Children’s Village and 20 students of the Dich Vong Secondary School. Each child participating in the event also received a small gift on the occasion of International Children’s Day (June 1).
