According to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control’s Sub-committee on Treatment, the latest patients (all Vietnamese) who were given the all-clear today include a 50-year-old woman, known as Patient 278, treated at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
The remaining four male patients, coded as Patients 294, 299, 307 and 311, were all imported cases who had returned to Vietnam from Russia and were treated at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases Base 2 in Hanoi since their arrival.
All of the patients had multiple consecutive negative test results for SARS-CoV-2, and now are in a stable condition, without fever, cough or shortness of breath, thus making them eligible for discharge.
They will continue to practice self-isolation and be put under further health monitoring for the next 14 days as prescribed by COVID-19 prevention and control regulations.
As of 3 pm on June 2, Vietnam reported no new COVID-19 cases, making it the 47th day straight without community transmission. The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the country remains at 328, with zero fatalities.
A total of 188 imported cases were quarantined immediately upon entry, posing no risk of disease transmission to the community.
The remaining 30 patients are being treated at medical facilities nationwide with most of them in stable health condition. Among them, seven patients have tested negative for the novel coronavirus once, while several others have tested negative for the virus twice or more.
Regarding the health of a British pilot, known as Patient 91 – the most severely ill COVID-19 patient in Vietnam, doctors at the Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City have said that the patient's lungs have improved significantly since declared free from COVID-19 earlier in May.
The 43-year-old British man now has lung ventilation of up to 40% and he can turn his head, while his index of infection has decreased.
In his previous treatment consultations in early May, his lungs were solidified by up to 90%, since then his lungs’ active area has gradually increased from 20% to 30% and is now up to 40%, something health experts have described his recovery as a miracle.
