NDO - Vietnam is scheduled to launch a service designed to certify electronic copies of original documents starting from July 1, in a significant step to ease the burden of administrative procedures on citizens and businesses.

The certified digital copies will have the same value as the original documents, said Chairman of the Government Office Mai Tien Dung at a conference on June 4 in advance of the roll-out.

Dung stated that it is not appropriate that citizens still have to present hard copies when conducting administrative procedures on the national public service portal, which is why the government has agreed to the opening of the digital copy certification service.

According to the Ministry of Justice, in 2019 there were 102 million documents requiring certification and if even 30% of the digital certification copies are reused, an estimated VND428 billion will be saved (US$18.4 million).

When the service is implemented, citizens and businesses will be able to book an appointment for their documents to be certified, helping to reduce handling times.

The certified electronic documents will be digitally signed and sealed to ensure their integrity and accuracy. They can also be used multiple times.

With such digital copies, citizens and businesses can conduct most of the administrative procedures provided on the portal entirely online, eliminating the need to submit certified hard copies.
