Vietnam wins gold at 2020 European Physics Olympiad

Nguyen Manh Quan, an eleventh grader at the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, won a gold medal at the 2020 European Physics Olympiad (EuPhO), which was held online from July 20 to 26.

According to the Hanoi City Department of Education and Training, three other Vietnamese students participating in the event also earned prizes.

They include silver medallist Tran Thanh Long from the High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University, and two bronze medallists, Nguyen Khac Hai Long from the High School for Gifted Students under the Hanoi National University of Education and Do Duc Manh from the Bac Ninh Provincial High School for the Gifted.

The contest drew the participation of around 250 contestants from 53 countries worldwide, who took part in two rounds: an experimental exam and a theoretical exam.

This year marks the second time that Vietnamese students have participated in EuPhO, which was first held in Tallinn, Estonia, in 2017.
