HCM City completes financial support for people affected by COVID-19

Ho Chi Minh City has completed the financial allocation of a government support package to 538,360 out of 538,621 people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 99.95% of the total affected people.

According to Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, Le Minh Tan, the city has essentially finished the disbursement of over VND590 billion (US$25.3 million) to local people in 24 districts hit by the pandemic by the end of July 2020.

Over VND67.5 billion was allocated for 66,020 workers who lost their jobs or halted work, including preschool teachers.

A total amount of VND994 million was also granted to 994 workers who had to temporarily terminate their labour contracts but were not eligible for unemployment benefits.

As many as 182,633 freelance labourers were also provided with a total financial aid of over VND1.82 billion and 1,330 household businesses with revenues of less than VND100 million per year each who had suspended their operations in April 2020 were granted a total support of VND1.3 billion.

In addition, 100% of needy households and revolutionary contributors received the financial support.
