Localities promptly overcome consequences of Storm Sinlaku

Localities nationwide have promptly taken measures to overcome the consequences of Storm Sinlaku, which caused two deaths, according to reports from the provinces at a meeting in Hanoi on August 3.

One man was killed in a landslide in the northern province of Quang Ninh and the other was swept away by floods in the northern province of Hoa Binh as the storm landed on August 2, bringing torrential rains to northern and north central Vietnam.

According to the Office of Hau Giang province’s Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of 9:00 of August 3, a total of 194 houses in the province have collapsed or been unroofed during the torrential rains and thunderstorms. The total loss is estimated at VND2.4 billion.

Tran Thanh Toan, the head of the committee, said that his committee has directed functional forces to help affected households in stabilising their lives and production activities.

In Ca Mau province, the storm, the second of its kind to enter the East Sea since the beginning of this year, damaged 20 houses in Dam Doi and Tran Van Thoi districts, along with VND220 million in property losses.

Local authorities are continuing to update statistics on the damage caused by the storm's circulation while mobilising the relevant forces to assist people in quickly overcoming the consequences of the storm.

Meanwhile, landslides and floods caused blockages on many roads across several mountainous districts in Nghe An province on the morning of August 3.

The leaders of Ky Son, Que Phong and Tuong Duong districts inspected the storm-affected areas and made directions to quickly resolve the problem and resume traffic on flooded and eroded road sections.
