Hanoi receives donations of VND22 billion to support flood-hit people

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Hanoi chapter received the first tranche of donations on October 20 to support local people in the central region affected by the current flooding.

Accordingly, 55 organisations, agencies, enterprises and individuals registered and donated over VND22 billion (US$949,000) in cash was well as goods including 700 barrels of Ecolean milk, 500kg of sausages and two tonnes of rice.

After receiving the support of donors, Hanoi authorities granted VND1 billion (US$43,000) to Quang Binh province and VND1 billion to Ha Tinh province to help the two localities overcome the difficulties caused by storms and floods.

Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Hanoi chapter, Nguyen Lan Huong, acknowledged the noble deeds of donors and their aid for the flood-hit people despite their own difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She also called on organisations, agencies, enterprises and individuals to continue to support local residents in the central region.

*On the same day, at the regular press meeting, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Ministry of Information and Communications, and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association launched a fundraising programme in support of people hit by flooding in central region.

*The Vietnamese Embassy in Phnom Penh, Cambodia also held a ceremony on October 20 to raise funds for flood-hit people in central Vietnam.

The event attracted the participation of the staff at the Embassy, Vietnamese people and enterprises in Cambodia and other benefactors who donated nearly US$36,000.
