On December 2, the Hanoi Department of Health recommended that localities in the capital city effectively manage quarantine facilities and quarantine subjects, especially at fee-based accommodation facilities and isolation facilities for flight crew.
Specifically, it is necessary to carry out a full 14-day medical supervision with inbound persons after they finish their 14-day concentrated isolation period.
Chairman of Hanoi Municipal People's Committee Chu Ngoc Anh asked the city’s authorities and units to take drastic action with determination to not to let a third wave of COVID-19 occur, stressing that the capital city not only needs to restore economic development but must be absolutely safe.
Hanoi leaders asked the concerned units to immediately remedy the shortcomings in the isolated areas, tighten management over quarantine procedures, and perform well in epidemic prevention in public places and in hospitals, even halting non-urgent events.
The Ministry of Education and Training has sent a written request to its relevant departments and universities, urging for serious implementation of epidemic prevention and control measures, limited organisation of crowded activities, maintenance of disinfection in schools and classes, and preparation of plans to ensure health for learners, teachers, administrators and staff in schools.
The ministry also asked to increase the application of information technology in management, teaching and learning activities, while closely coordinating with the local health sector to guide and direct educational institutions to effectively implement safety measures against COVID-19.
On December 2, several universities in Ho Chi Minh City let students remain absent from school as a response measure against COVID-19, after a number of locals students were identified as having been in close contact with the newly-confirmed COVID-19 patients.
Among them, Ton Duc Thang University announced that it will suspend study at the main campus in District 7 from December 2 to 6 for more than 20,000 students, while turning to online studying. The Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology also allowed over 30,000 students to stay home from school from December 2 to 6. The Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology also requested all its over 10,000 students to stay at home from December 3 to 6.
The People's Committee of Hai Phong City has issued a written request to all local departments, unions, agencies, businesses and localities on strengthening the implementation of measures to prevent and fight against COVID-19.
Accordingly, local residents are required to wear face masks in public places, crowded gatherings must comply with regulations and instructions from the local health sector, and immigration management is being strengthened to strictly deal with illegal entries.
Hai Phong authorities also decided to reduce the water bills for local poor and near poor households (using no more than 10 m3/month) and isolated establishments as a measure to ease the difficulties due to the impact of COVID-19.
