Hanoi provides full support for K Hospital during its medical lockdown

Hanoi authorities have vowed to provide full support for Vietnam's National Cancer Hospital, also known as K Hospital, during the medical quarantine applied on all three of its facilities in Hanoi, following several COVID-19 infections recorded at the hospital’s Tan Trieu base.

On the morning of May 7, Chu Ngoc Anh, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, checked the blockade of the K Hospital’s Tan Trieu campus and Tam Hiep facility, both located in Thanh Tri district.

Anh urged the K Hospital's staff to promote their highest sense of responsibility and strictly implement epidemic prevention and control requirements while supporting patients and their family members during the medical isolation.

The chairman affirmed that the capital city will give its best support to the hospital during its quarantine to prevent the epidemic from spreading. In the immediate future, the People's Committee of Thanh Tri district will maintain contact with the hospital, ready to support its basic necessities and ensure the needs of isolated subjects in the hospital’s facilities.

He also called on the Ministry of Health and hospitals under the management of the ministry stationed in Hanoi to strengthen close coordination with the Hanoi authorities and promptly synchronise the implementation of measures to prevent and fight the epidemic with the highest levels of efficiency.

On May 7, the Standing Committee of Bac Ninh Provincial Party Committee held a conference on the prevention and control of COVID-19, during which local authorities called for more urgent measures in tracing and zoning off outbreaks, as Bac Ninh has so far detected 15 local infections.

Facing the complicated developments of the epidemic in Vinh Phuc province, the chairperson of the People's Committee of Vinh Phuc issued a dispatch on applying the quarantine of Vinh Yen city for 15 days, from 0:00 on May 7 to 0:00 on May 22. To date, Vinh Yen has recorded 11 positive cases with a high risk of spreading the disease.

This morning, the authorities of Co Le town in Truc Ninh district, Nam Dinh province applied quarantine on Trai hamlet, belonging to the Tay Kenh residential area, with 70 houses and 200 people, due to the discovery of a suspected COVID-19 infection, related to the outbreak at the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases Base 2 in Hanoi.

Immediately after discovering the first infection case in the community, Phu Tho province convened an emergency meeting on May 7 to take urgent measures to prevent the epidemic from spreading. The case is a female worker in Kim Duc commune, Viet Tri city, who works at Namuga Phu Tho Technology Company Limited. The company and the two neighbourhoods connected to the worker have been placed under lockdown. Functional units urgently took samples from 700 workers on the same work shift as the patient at the Namuga Company.

In Nghe An province, five villages in Quynh Lap commune ( Hoang Mai town) are also in lockdown after the first COVID-19 case in the community appeared in the area. Starting from May 7, the entire town of Hoang Mai will implement social distancing measures with all local students allowed to stay home from school.

From 0:00 on May 7, Da Nang stopped operating the Dong Da market and disinfected it while taking samples all traders in the market, due to a newly-announced COVID-19 case.

Previously, on the evening of May 6, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City Le Trung Chinh decided to suspend operations at restaurants, shops, and food service establishments from 12 pm on May 7, only allowing take away for customers as well as online purchases.

Thanh Hoa province decided yesterday night to stop non-essential services such as bars, karaoke bars, saunas, massage, spa, and gym establishments from 0:00 on 7 May.

On the morning of May 7, Quang Ngai province authorities decided to apply social distancing on the whole province from 12pm on May 7 until further notice, with the halting of crowded gatherings above 20 people and limits place on people travelling to other localities, while stopping the reception tourists (from outside the province and foreigners) to Ly Son Island.

Also on May 7, Minister of Transport Nguyen Van The signed a directive on enhancing the implementation of urgent measures to prevent and combat COVID-19 in the transport sector. The chairpersons of the Provincial People's Committees based on the actual situation are requested to decide to stop, suspend, postpone and adjust the frequency of the transportation activities of fixed passenger transport routes and transportation involving contract cars, taxis and buses, except for cases of civic duty or when absolutely necessary, while minimising the operation of personal vehicles and ensuring the smooth flow of goods and materials for production.
