Da Nang holds anti-coronavirus drills to prepare for upcoming elections

The People’s Committee of Da Nang City held a COVID-19 prevention and control drill in Khue Trung Ward, Cam Le District, on May 9 to prepare for the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and all-level People’s Council for the 2021-2026 tenure.

The drill featured four scenarios: voters having fever at a polling location, an election team visiting households quarantined at home for voters to cast ballots, an election team arriving at a concentrated quarantine area for voters to cast ballots, and voters casting ballots at a COVID-19 treatment facility.

As part of the drill, a medical team for pandemic prevention and control was arranged at each polling venue, with at least one medical worker coordinating with relevant forces to perform body temperature measurement and remind voters to wear face masks, disinfect their hands, and keep a safe distance from each other.

Director of the municipal Department of Health Ngo Thi Kim Yen said that the unit will review the results of the drill and then issue a standard video to train 526 polling sites so that they could draw experience in implementing the election work this May 23.

Within the drill, a number of difficult cases were also anticipated in approaching the quarantine areas and guiding the people to cast ballots in accordance with regulations.

Concluding the drill, Chairman of the Da Nang People's Council Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, who heads the municipal Election Committee, emphasised that every situation is possible and should be brought into the script and disseminated to participants in the election work at polling places across the city.

* According to the Grassroots Culture Department at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, a contest launched in late 2020 to create propaganda posters for the upcoming elections has officially wrapped up, attracting more than 400 entries from authors nationwide.

The organising committee has decided to award one first prize to the work of Luu Ngoc Phan from Hanoi, alongside two second prizes, three third prizes, and eight consolation prizes.

The contest aims to disseminate the significance and importance of the upcoming elections to all strata of the people, while widely spreading the Party and State’s guidelines and leadership viewpoints on the elections, as well as the country’s achievements in all aspects of social life, thus encouraging and promoting patriotic emulation movements in celebration of election activities in localities.

Due to the complexity of COVID-19, the contest organisers will not hold an exhibition to showcase outstanding works, but will display them in public places to directly serve the election propaganda work nationwide.
