The fourth National Olympiad on Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought kicked off on May 16 under the theme “Anh sang soi duong” (The light illuminates the road).

The Olympiad was organised by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Information and Education, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Running until July 10, the contest is divided into two groups for individuals and teams. The form of the Olympiad will include an online contest and performing on the stage for three rounds. Vietnamese students inside and outside the country can join the Olympiad individually via mobile app “Thanh nien Viet Nam”. Meanwhile, each team may have up to five members representing a province or city at the contest.

Winners of the Olympiad will receive total awards of more than VND 340 million (US$14,777).

Addressing the launching ceremony, Nguyen Anh Tuan, member of the Party Central Committee and First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee, said that the Olympiad aims to enhance the education of Marxism–Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought, helping to raise political awareness and fostering the revolutionary ideal for youth union members and students.

This year’s contest is available on the mobile app “Thanh nien Viet Nam” rather than on a website, enabling students and youngsters to join in more easily.

Due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the final round will not be held directly but in an online format, he said.

Right after the launching ceremony, students and youngsters from across 67 Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Unions joined the contest online.

On May 16, Vietnamese students in Russia organised a ceremony to offer flowers to celebrate President Ho Chi Minh's birthday at President Ho Chi Minh's statue in Moscow and honour winners of the contest "RUDN Youth - a journey following Uncle Ho's footsteps”.

The contest was took place from April 24 to May 10.

The entries focused on highlighting the great life and career of President Ho Chi Minh, his great contributions to Vietnam's glorious revolutionary cause; His contributions to the international communist and workers' movements; The application and development of Ho Chi Minh's thought by the Communist Party of Vietnam in the renovation, construction and defence of the Fatherland; Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's thoughts, morals and style.

Shortly after launching, the organising board received 11 entries from five groups and six individuals.

The organising board decided to present one first prize, one second prize, two third prizes, one ‘favourite award’ prize and one creative prize.
