More aid provided to fight COVID-19

Many cities and provinces and authorised agencies have continued to receive donations from organisations, enterprises and individuals aiming to help in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

On June 7, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City - the Committee for the mobilisation, reception and distribution of Covid-19 epidemic prevention and fighting received more than VND 12 billion from 17 organizations, businesses and individuals into its fund to support the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for the mobilization, reception and distribution of Covid-19 epidemic prevention funds, up to now, it received more than VND60 billion from more than 430 organisations , businesses and individuals in Ho Chi Minh City.

The fund promptly distributed more than VND12.4 billion (including more than VND8 billion in cash and goods and medical equipment worth more than VND4.4 billion) to forces directly involved in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic at hospitals, health centres, isolation areas and units performing epidemic prevention and control tasks at border areas, and also supporting poor people who are facing difficulties and affected by COVID-19.

* On the same day, the Provincial Party Committee, the People's Council, the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Long An province held a ceremony to launch the Long An province's COVID-19 vaccine fund.

At the ceremony, Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Ut called on people and soldiers to voluntarily contribute and support the provincial COVID-19 vaccine fund.

All donations from individuals and businesses will be transferred to the account of the Long An Provincial COVID-19 vaccine fund (No. 6600 238 999 999 Vietnam Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development - Tan An City Branch), or people can contribute directly at the Long An Provincial Department of Finance at No. 57, Truong Dinh Street, Ward 1, Tan An City, Long An province; donations in kind can be made at the Department of Health of Long An province, at No. 70, Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, ward 1, Tan An city.

Right after the launch ceremony, the Long An Provincial COVID-19 Vaccine Fund received nearly VND 27.8 billion from individuals and units. Previously, the fund also received 50,000 vaccine doses and VND 3 billion in cash from benefactors, units and businesses.

* The State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a ceremony on June 7 to receive VND 100 million (US$4,350) from Dr Phan Bich Thien, Vice President of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary, to support COVID-19 prevention and control activities in Vietnam. Thien’s mother and sister handed over the money to the committee on her behalf.

According to the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, on May 31, Steve Bui, Chairman of a Japan-based financial consultation and investment group and Chairman of the Steve Bui & Friends Foundation, presented nearly 1,000 bottles of hand sanitiser and 9,000 N5 facemasks worth nearly VND300 million to medical staff in the two COVID-19 hotspots of Bac Giang and Bac Ninh.

On June 1, representatives from the Vietnam-Korea Businessmen & Investment Association (VKBIA) and the Saigon Share charity group visited and presented medical supplies to frontline forces in the COVID-19 fight in Ho Chi Minh City’s Go Vap district.

The Overseas Vietnamese Association in Macau (China) also handed over VND 131 million to the VFF Central Committee to support pandemic prevention and control activities.
