They are among the more than 3,000 inmates nationwide who are being released in the first amnesty since the 2018 Amnesty Law come into effect.

The Deputy PM extended his congratulations to the released inmates on having their sentences commuted.

He noted that clemency continues to demonstrate the nation’s humane tradition and the Party and State’s leniency towards those who violated the law but have shown genuine repentance during their time in prison.

Deputy PM Minh told the freed inmates that their release is only the beginning of their path towards a better life and that there are many challenges ahead of them.

But he expressed his belief that with what they have learned in the correctional facility, they will overcome such challenges to become good citizens.

He also called on inmates still serving their sentences to improve themselves and comply with all regulations so that they can soon be eligible for a pardon.
