Thanh was found guilty of embezzlement in a deal in which PVP Land’s stake in a property project was transferred to another company at prices under its actual value.

Dao Duy Phong, former chairman of PVP Land, was sentenced to 16 years in prison, while Nguyen Ngoc Sinh, former general director of PVP Land, was given 13 years.

Other defendants in the case received jail sentences of between six and ten years.

Previously, Trinh Xuan Thanh was also sentenced to life imprisonment for both economic mismanagement and embezzlement in a criminal case at PVC concerning the implementation of the Thai Binh 2 power plant.

Thanh fled Vietnam in 2016 when he was found to have violated State regulations on economic management, resulting in significant losses for PVC during his leadership.

The fugitive turned himself in to the police in July of last year after almost one year on the run.
