APEC 2017: Vietnamese President meets with top leader of Laos

NDO/ VNA – President Tran Dai Quang met on November 11 with General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith, who was in Da Nang city to attend the APEC-ASEAN dialogue as part of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.

The Vietnamese President congratulated Laos on its enormous achievements, expressing his belief that the Lao people will successfully implement the Resolution of the LPRP’s 10th National Congress and the socio-economic development plan for 2016-2020, building Laos into a prosperous country.

He reiterated that Vietnam always supports the Lao people in their national development.

LPRP General Secretary and President Vorachith thanked Vietnam for inviting his country to be a guest at the APEC-ASEAN dialogue, adding that this time’s APEC meetings have helped promote Vietnam’s role and stature in the region and the world.

On this occasion, the Lao leader thanked the Communist Party of Vietnam and the State and people of Vietnam for assisting his country throughout history.

On behalf of the Lao Party, State and people, he presented 100,000 USD as financial aid to people affected by storm Damrey in the central region of Vietnam.

President Quang described the relief as considerable support for Vietnamese people to address disaster consequences.

At the meeting, the leaders voiced their delight at various activities held in both countries during the Year of Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship, which have helped the two peoples, especially younger generations, understand more about the countries’ special relationship.

They pledged that Vietnam and Laos will enhance bilateral cooperation in multiple fields, including politics, security, defence, economy, trade, investment, education-training and culture, and coordinate closely at regional and international forums.

President Quang once again invited Vorachith to pay a visit to Vietnam later this year to review the Year of Vietnam-Lao Solidarity ad Friendship. The Lao leader accepted the invitation with pleasure.
