Vietnamese women's sepak takraw win silver medal at 2018 Asian Games

Vietnamese women's sepak takraw brought home a silver medal after losing 2-0 to strong rivals Thailand in the final of the women’s quadrant event on September 1.

* Boxing, sepak takraw bring home two more bronzes for Vietnam

At the Jakabaring in Palembang, Indonesia, on Saturday morning, the Vietnamese team entered the final match with great determination, but facing the world's top players, the Vietnamese girls soon lost the first set with a humiliating score of 8-21.

Thailand continued to excel in the second set to quickly win 10-21, thus overtaking Vietnam with a final score of 2-0 after two sets to win the gold medal.

It is the first medal for the Vietnamese sports delegation in the Games’ penultimate day. On Friday afternoon, the men's sepak takraw team won a bronze medal in the quadrant event after losing 2-0 to Japan in the semi-finals. Notably, this is the 37th medal for the Vietnamese delegation at the ongoing Games, officially crossing the threshold of 36 medals, the previous highest haul for the delegation at a single Asian Games that was set in Incheon, the Republic of Korea, in 2014.

This morning, Vietnamese athletes also contended a final in the women’s canoe single 200m event. However, Truong Thi Phuong could only finish fifth with a time of 51.409.

In the women's volleyball tournament classification 5th- 6th place, the Vietnamese girls lost 3-1 to Kazakhstan's players after four sets with scores of 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, and 24-26, to be ranked 6th overall.

As of 3pm on Saturday, the Vietnamese sports delegation were temporarily ranked 17th on the medal tally, with 4 gold, 16 silver and 18 bronze medals.
