Park Hang-seo’s side has stunned the whole of Asia by beating Jordan to qualify for the last eight of the continental showpiece. The Golden Dragons are even considered a phenomenon of the 2019 Asian Cup, and have received huge attention from international media.

In particular, there were up to ten Japanese reporters who appeared at the stadium to record Vietnam’s training session and interview Vietnamese players, and Vietnamese correspondents as well.

Head coach Park Hang-seo carefully watched his players in action during the training session, with special care given to midfielder Nguyen Trong Hoang, who suffered a pain following his collision with a Jordanian player in their Round of 16 game on January 20. Fortunately enough, Trong Hoang can still join in with the whole team without having to train privately.

The Vietnam-Japan quarterfinal will take place at the Al Maktoum Stadium in Dubai on January 24 at 8pm (Vietnamese time). Mohammed Abdulla Hassan Mohamed (UAE) has been assigned by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to referee the match.

Notably, the Vietnam-Japan encounter will be the first clash in the Asian Cup history to apply the Video Assistance Referee (VAR) technology.
