Impressed by the "City for Peace"

Careful preparations, friendly people, and distinguished traditional cuisine have created a good impression on the international press circle during their visit to Vietnam to cover the second DPRK-USA Summit in Hanoi. Followings are several comments by foreign reporters from the talks with Nhan Dan reporters at the International Media Centre in service of the Summit.

Scottie Nell Hughes, RT America Television from the US:

It often takes countries weeks or even months to prepare for such a high-level summit. Meanwhile, in less than two weeks, Hanoi has rolled out "red carpet" to welcome international guests which satisfies relevant parties. Vietnam is a great choice for both the United States and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) because Vietnam is a great example of strengthening international cooperation to promote development. Vietnam's positive strides not only in politics and diplomacy, but also economics have contributed to boosting peaceful solutions to issues of mutual concern. The Hanoi people are proud of their city and are very hospitable, which means foreigners like us, who only visit the city for a few days, will always remember the good things here.

David Nathan Hutt, Asia Times newspaper from Hong Kong (China):

The Government of Vietnam and Hanoi have prepared very well for the second DPRK-USA Summit, although they only had less than two weeks. Obviously, through this event, the Vietnamese Government wishes to affirm their support for international peace cooperation as well as promoting tourism, cuisine and economic opportunities in Vietnam. People and cuisine are the most impressive things for international reporters. I always see the smiles and friendly attitude of the Vietnamese people whenever I have the opportunity to talk to them. I will also write several articles on Vietnam's economic development motivation in the future.

Paolo Mastrolilli, La Stampa, a daily print newspaper of Italy

It is easy to understand why Vietnam was chosen to host the DPRK-USA Summit because your country has shown the world that relationships can always be established through peaceful dialogue. Moreover, Vietnam has good relations with both dialogue partners at this summit. The organisation of such a large international summit is an extremely difficult task. However, after a short time, Vietnam fulfilled very surprising things. The results of the summit depend on the talks between the leaders of the US and DPRK, but Vietnam has generated a peaceful and friendly atmosphere for the summit.

Kah Hyeong-Woo, Arirang, a TV channel of the Republic of Korea (RoK)

Vietnam has prepared very well for the international media. A large and modern international media centre with high-speed Internet service, a direct transmission line from the scene, large screens, and an urgent and professional working atmosphere are what we feel here. The negotiation on the denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula is impossible to conclude in one night, it takes time. However, I think the meeting between the US President and the DPRK Chairman in Hanoi this time has created real driving forces in efforts for sustainable stability and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

Sandra Ratziw, ARD German TV, Germany

Hanoi people are very excited about the DPRK-USA Summit. Large screens, national flags of Vietnam, the US, and DPRK, banners are hung all over the streets, creating a very warm and hospitable atmosphere. With this summit, Vietnam shows the world that Hanoi is capable of organising large international events. Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular are very interesting destinations. Ancient buildings aligned with modern constructions, Western architecture mixed with Eastern style, dishes, coffee, and others all leave a strong impression.

Kirsty Needham, the Age newspaper, Australia:

I was really surprised by Vietnam's preparations for the DPRK-USA Summit, because Vietnam only had a very short time to arrange all things. The International Media Centre in Hanoi is fully equipped with devices to serve the work of thousands of reporters. I also covered the first DPRK-USA Summit in Singapore. And I see that all preparations in Vietnam are very thorough. The Vietnamese people excitedly welcome this significant event. Dishes, restaurants, taxis and hotels are all great. I will definitely recommend my family and friends visit Vietnam.

Mark Andrew Jessop, Australian News Channel, Australia

I have been in Hanoi for only two days, but I understand why your capital is honoured as "City for Peace". Hanoi people are very nice and friendly. They not only warmly welcomed delegates to the summit but my colleagues and I also. I have been working in the television area for 35 years and have been to many countries around the world and I can say that the special hospitality of the Vietnamese people is not seen in every country. My friends in the media industry tell me a lot about Vietnamese people, cuisine, and culture. I have only discovered a small part of Vietnam in the past two days, but I really enjoy it. My wife and I have decided to travel to Vietnam on our next holiday.

Cahya Sunandar, Metro TV, Indonesia

I appreciate Vietnam's preparations for the DPRK-USA Summit, especially the location for the summit. The international media centre is located in a very convenient place for traveling, right in the heart of the capital city, and is equipped with high-speed internet in addition to other equipment in support of the press. lice. Government officials, volunteers and Vietnamese people all provide information for us with smiles. Vietnamese cuisine is also very great. I have tried all the dishes at the International media centre and they all leave a special aftertaste.
