In her letter, dated December 9, the senior leader wrote: "I really appreciate and am proud of the achievements of the women's football team in particular and of Vietnamese athletes in general at the 30th SEA Games this year.”

The Vice President praised the courage and resilience of each female football player in every match, before creating a miracle in the final to be crowned the 6th champions of SEA Games. “I warmly congratulate and thank the whole team," she wrote.

Stating that, over the past few days, the millions of Vietnamese people that watched the matches daily were worried whenever Vietnamese female football players were injured, nervous when there were in dangerous situations, and bustled in joy with the victory, the Vice President affirmed: "You have added strength and confidence towards the victory for your male colleagues in their upcoming gold-medal match, and also encourage other Vietnamese athletes to contribute to the excellent performance of the Vietnamese sports delegation at the 30th SEA Games."

Vice President Thinh also conveyed her best wishes to the entire women's team, while wishing that the Vietnamese sports teams will continue winning medals and glory in the regional and international sports arenas in the future.

Also on December 9, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc praised the national women’s football team after their victory in the final of the SEA Games against Thailand.

He also informed that the Government Standing Committee had a high consensus in calling from the socialisation source to support each player and coaching member VND100 million, including a top-end motorbike and financial assistance, to reward their efforts.

Reports have showed that several patrons had already committed to present up to VND10 billion for the players.

The Vietnamese players defeated rivals Thailand 1-0 with the only goal scored by Hai Yen at the start of extra time, and it was enough for the team to defend their gold medal.

The team will stay in the Philippines longer as schedule to cheer on their male colleagues who will encounter Indonesia U22s in the men’s football final match later this evening.
