Vietnam athletes to seek medals at Tokyo Olympics 2020

Vietnamese athletes will compete at Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan from July 18 to August 13, striving to win medals at the event.

Under a recent decision of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the 43-member delegation, which includes 18 competitors, will be led by Tran Duc Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.

The 18 Vietnamese athletes to compete in Tokyo comprise weightlifters Thach Kim Tuan and Hoang Thi Duyen, boxers Nguyen Thi Tam and Nguyen Van Duong, gymnasts Le Thanh Tung and Dinh Phuong Thanh, swimmers Nguyen Huy Hoang and Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, badminton players Nguyen Tien Minh and Nguyen Thuy Linh, archers Do Thi Anh Nguyet and Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu, marksman Hoang Xuan Vinh, runner Quach Thi Lan, taekwondo martial artist Truong Thi Kim Tuyen, judo fighter Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, and rowing duo Luong Thi Thao and Dinh Thi Hao.

The Vietnamese sporting delegation will set out for the Games on July 18. A ceremony to see off the team will take place in Hanoi on July 13.

Previously, Vietnam ranked 45th in the medal table at the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil, which took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 5-21, with one gold and one silver, both won by shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh.
