Tennis ace Ly Hoang Nam wins second title in Mexico

Top Vietnamese tennis player Ly Hoang Nam continued his brilliant form, beating Rubin Statham 2-0 in the final match on December 6 to pocket his second championship title in Mexico’s M15 Cancun tournament.

It took Nam one hour and 38 minutes to finish off the New Zealand opponent, over two straight sets, both with the a score of 6-4 to win the event without dropping a set after five clashes.

Earlier on November 29, world no. 712 Nam toppled British player Giles Hussey 6-4, 6-4 to claim his inaugural men’s singles crown in Cancun as part of his Mexico journey.

With the most recent triumph, Nam has added 10 points to his ATP rating, alongside winnings of US$2,160 in prize money, edging closer to his goal of returning to the world’s top 500.

Prior to the dual victory in Mexico, the Tay Ninh-born player was crowned champion at the M15 Sharm El Sheikh in Egypt, back in October 2021.

Early next year, Nam is expected to leave for Thailand to compete in three more M15 tournaments.
