NDO/VNA – Vietnam are in Group C of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U23 Championship 2022 together with Thailand and Singapore.

A draw for the group stage of the regional football tourney was held on December 29, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) announced.

The event is scheduled to take place from February 14 to 26, 2022 in Cambodia.

Group A comprises the hosts Cambodia, Timor Leste, the Philippines and Brunei.

Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos are in Group B.

The teams are to play in the round-robin format. The three top teams in the groups and the best second-place squad will compete in the semi-finals.

To prepare for the tournament, members of the Vietnamese team will gather for a training session in Hanoi from January 5 next year.

It will be the third edition of the AFF U23 Championship after the first and second tournaments in 2005 and 2019, respectively.

Vietnam earned a bronze medal in the 2019 edition after beating the hosts Cambodia 1-0 in the third place playoff.
