Huynh Nhu and Ngan Thi Van Su scored a brace each, with Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung and Tran Thi Thuy Trang adding two other goals to send Mai Duc Chung’s side through to the semifinals with one game in hand.
Ahead of the penultimate match on Monday, both Vietnam and Myanmar had earned six points from two wins, but the Vietnamese women stood in second place due to goal difference. A victory against Timor Leste would mean Vietnam clinch an early place in the last four.
Given that fact, coach Mai Duc Chung deployed their strongest squad right from the start, which allowed them to promptly take control of the game and go ahead after just 10 minutes as a result with captain Huynh Nhu slotting it in from close range.
Vietnam created a number of threats in the following minutes before Ngan Thi Van Su doubled their advantage at the half hour mark thanks to Ngan Thi Van Su’s accurate volley.
The reigning champions needed just five more minutes to add a third goal as Tuyet Dung easily beat the Timor Leste goalkeeper on the penalty spot.
Huynh Nhu wrapped up an overwhelming first half for Vietnam by making it 4-0 shortly before the interval.
In the second half, coach Mai Duc Chung rested some key players and made five substitutions, but Vietnam still proved too strong for Timor Leste to produce any stirs.
Ngan Thi Van Su completed her double in the 72nd minute before Thuy Trang slotted home on the rebound 10 minutes later to seal a fantastic 6-0 win for Vietnam.
The commanding triumph lifted Vietnam to the top spot of Group B with nine points, ahead of second-placed Myanmar who edged past Laos 3-1 in another match earlier on the same day.
The last matchday of Group B will be on July 13, with Vietnam playing Myanmar and Cambodia meeting Timor Leste.
