Accordingly, Vietnam’s martial artists will attend the world tournament hosted by the city of Melaka, Malaysia from July 26 to 31.

The World Pencak Silat Championship 2022 attracts 81 teams from around the world, competing in 4 men's and women's performance (Seni) events and 22 fighting (Tanding) events, covering 13 men's and 11 women's weight classes.

The Vietnam Pencak Silat team is expected to compete in 18 men's and women's weight classes in addition to the performance events.

The world championship offers an opportunity for national martial artists who didn’t have the opportunity to compete at the 31st SEA Games hosted by Vietnam earlier this year.

With the absence of some key athletes such as Nguyen Van Tri and 2018 ASIAD gold medallist Tran Dinh Nam, the Vietnamese team will have additional young faces from strong teams across the country.

At the last World Championship held in Singapore in 2018, the Vietnam Pencak Silat team won 6 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze, finishing in second place out of 60 participating teams.

However, with the changes in the rules of the International Pencak Silat Federation and the competition expected to be fiercer than before, the Vietnamese team is aiming for 4-5 gold medals at the upcoming tournament in Malaysia.

Since the 31st SEA Games in May, Pencak Silat athletes have had the opportunity to experience new competition rules with several changes, especially the high requirements for physical strength and speed of competition.
