Vietnam remains atop Southeast Asia in FIFA rankings

Nhan Dan Online – The Vietnam men’s national football team maintained 116th place in the world and top position in Southeast Asia with 242 points, according to the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola ranking published on May 8.

The team has not played any matches since concluding its campaign at the 2015 Asian Cup qualifying round two months ago.

The Philippines leapt up three places to second in the Southeast Asian ladders and 140th in the world standings, rolling past Thailand and Malaysia, which both dropped three notches, to 143rd and 145th positions.

World number 47, Japan maintained reign atop the Asian ranking with 613 points, while the Republic of Korea and Australia, ranked 55th and 59th in the world, followed in second and third place with 551 and 545 points, respectively.

Brazil recorded the most remarkable promotion in the world’s top ten this month, moving up two notches to reclaim fourth place with 1,210 points. Spain, Germany and Portugal remained the three best teams in the world with respective scores of 1,460, 1,340 and 1,245 points.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola world ranking will be announced on June 6.
