This is the first time Trang has earned the honour of competing in the world’s most prestigious badminton tournament.

She has recently recorded impressive achievements, making the semi-finals of the Ciputra Hanoi – Yonex Sunrise 2014 tournament in late March and cruising into the second round of the 2014 OUE Singapore Open last month. These performances have lifted her to 83rd place in the world rankings.

In addition, Vietnam’s top male player and world number 10, Tien Minh, has also qualified for the world championships, thanks to his top-ten place in the world ladder.

The week-long championships will see approximately 400 of the world’s top players, representing five continents, competing for the title of World Champion in five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles.

Both Minh and Trang are currently competing in the 2014 National Mixed Team Championships transpiring in the northern province of Bac Giang from May 10-17. The eight-day tournament has brought together 84 players representing 11 teams from across the country.
