Nhan Dan Online – Shooters Hoang Xuan Vinh and Tran Quoc Cuong have earned Vietnam its first two official places at the 2016 Olympic Games − to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in two years’ time − following their success at the recent 51st ISSF World Championships in Spain.

Both excelled beyond expectation with Xuan Vinh finishing fourth in the men’s 50m pistol finals on September 9, scoring 150.3 points, and Quoc Cuong claiming the men’s 10m air pistol sixth position with a final score of 118.8.

According to the regulations by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), the top six scorers in each discipline of the 2014 world championships will qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympics, which means Olympic tickets for the two Vietnamese shooters.

Xuan Vinh and Quoc Cuong returned to the Republic of Korea on September 13 to join the Vietnam national shooting team in preparation for the 2014 Asian Games, to be held in Incheon from September 19 to October 4.
