Vietnam wins four gold medals at Asian Wushu Championships

NDO—The Vietnamese team has brought home four gold, eight silver and six bronze medals from the 2016 Asian Wushu Championships, which officially wrapped up in Taipei, China, on September 5.

In the taolu (performance) discipline, Tran Thi Khanh Ly (from Hanoi) won the gold medal in the women’s taijijian event with 9.69 points and a silver medal in women’s taijiquan with 9.65 points.

Thanks to these outstanding achievements, Ly was the most successful Vietnamese athlete participating in the taolu category of the tournament.

Her teammate, Tran Xuan Hiep, placed second position in the men’s gunshu event, with 9.67 points. Three other martial artists, Nguyen Thuc Anh, Nguyen Thuy Linh and Duong Thuy Vi, bagged bronze medals in the women’s nanshu, jianshu and qiangshu events, respectively.

In the sanda (sparring) discipline, three gold medals went to Vu Minh Duc of the armed forces, Dinh Van Huong from Quang Ngai and To Van Bau from Hanoi in the men’s 48kg, 52kg and 56kg events, respectively.

Their teammates, Hoang Thi Luan (women’s 48kg), Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy (women’s 52kg), Nguyen Thi Trang (women’s 65kg) and Chu Thi Thuy Hang (women’s 70kg), as well as Hoang Van Cao (men’s 65kg) and Hang Khai Giang (men’s 75kg), secured silver medals in sanda.

Additionally, other Vietnamese athletes won three bronze medals in the sanda category.

The 2016 Asian Wushu Championships took place from September 1-5 in Taoyuan, China, drawing on the participation of 38 teams in the region.
