The two teams played out a 4-4 draw in the first leg at Cam Pha Stadium earlier. Hanoi T&T only needed a draw on home field to secure the trophy; however, the capital team was unable to make their dream come true.

The second-leg match kick started in great caution from both sides. It was not until the 34th minute that the deadlock was broken, with Duc Thang dashing into the box and curling a shot into the bottom corner to open the scoring for Quang Ninh.

The opener enabled the guests to play more comfortably and confidently, while the hosts increased their attacks seeking an equaliser.

Xuan Hung netted the second goal for Quang Ninh four minutes after the break.

In the middle of the second half, Hanoi manager Chu Dinh Nghiem decided to send striker Gonzalo onto field aiming to strengthen the offensive line; however, it was too late for the hosts to reverse the situation.

The T&T team could only manage to pull back a goal one minute before stoppage time thanks to Van Quyet’s close-range shot.

Losing 5-6 on aggregate, Hanoi T&T missed out on their second consecutive title in the 2016 season, following the V-League crown won on September 18.

V-League champions Hanoi T&T and National Cup winners Quang Ninh Coal will meet each other in the Vietnam Super Cup match that marks the beginning of next year’s football season.
