At a press brief in Hanoi this morning, the organisers informed that the 13th VTV Cup will bring together six strong teams, including Indonesia, a Chinese youth-team, Japanese Nagasaki, Xuzhou Jiangsu (China), Thailand’s Chonburi and hosts Vietnam.

The teams will play under a round-robin format to select the top four teams to progress to the semifinals. All matches will be broadcast live on Vietnam Television channel 6 (VTV6) from 15:00 to 22:00 on every day of competition.

The champions will walk away with a prize of US$10,000 in cash, followed by the runners-up with US$7,000 and the third place team with US$5,000. Other individual prizes will be granted to the most valuable player, the most outstanding hitter, the best Libero, and a special title for the tournament’s beauty queen.

The event also offers a good chance for Vietnam’s female volleyball youth squad to hone their skills at an international competition. The four-time VTV Cup holders are scheduled to face Xuzhou Jiangsu during their first clash at the tournament late Saturday.

The VTV International Women's Volleyball Cup is an annual event initiated by the Vietnam Volleyball Federation and Vietnam Television in 2004. This year’s event is accompanied by Vietnamese steel giant Hoa Sen Group.

Hosts Vietnam have claimed the championship titles four times in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014. Last year U23 Thailand were crowned champions after defeating Chinese Liaoning Brilliance Auto 3-1 in the final.
