The delegation will be led by Tran Duc Phan, Deputy Director of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training.
In addition to swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien and track and field athlete Le Thi Tu Chinh, who gave impressive performance at the recent SEA Games 29 in Malaysia, Vietnam will send a delegation of other sports stars such as swimmer Nguyen Huu Kim Son, athletics athlete Nguyen Van Lai, taekwondo athletes Chau Tuyet Van and Ha Thi Nguyen, wrestlers Thach Kim Tuan and Trinh Van Vinh and chess masters Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Pham Le Thao Nguyen.
The Vietnamese athletes will compete in 16 sports including indoor athletics, taekwondo, short course swimming, futsal, muay, billiards, dance sports, wrestling, kick-boxing, kurash and chess.
The AIMAG is a pancontinental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia, following the merger of the Asian Indoor Games and the Asian Martial Arts Games in 2013.
The Games have been organised by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and are considered as the second largest Asian multi-sport event after the Asian Games.
Thousands of athletes are expected to contest against each other in the various disciplines at the 2017 AIMAG. With 21 sports on the schedule, the Games will have one of the richest mix of sports anywhere, enabling athletes to compete in both Olympic and non-Olympic sports.
The previous Games was held in Incheon, the Republic of Korea from June 29 to July 9, 2013. Vietnam settled for third place overall at the event with a collection of 8 gold, 7 silver and 12 bronze medals, behind China and the Republic of Korea.
