More than 80 athletes to compete at VTV International Cycling Tournament

More than 80 athletes from six Vietnamese teams and six foreign teams will compete at the fourth Vietnam Television (VTV) International Cycling Tournament - Ton Hoa Sen Cup, which will be launched in Hanoi from September 1-8.

The Vietnamese side includes teams from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Military Zone 7, Bikelife Dong Nai, Loc Troi An Giang, and Duoc Domesco Dong Thap, while six foreign clubs that come from the Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Thailand, Australia and Japan.

Speaking at a press conference held in Hanoi on August 30 to announce the event, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Sports Administration Tran Duc Phan revealed that the tournament consists of eight stages covering around 1,045 km along the length of the country, starting from Hanoi and finishing in Hoi An city (Quang Nam province).

During the event, the cyclists will ride through the country’s famous destinations, including Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh province), Trang An Landscape Complex (Ninh Binh province), Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park (Quang Binh province), Hue ancient capital, and Hoi An ancient city (Quang Nam province).

The total value of the prize-money is up to VND1 billion (US$43,000) and the yellow jersey will pocket VND120 million (US$6,500).

The annual event is jointly held by the Vietnam Television, the Vietnam Sports Administration, the Vietnam Cycling and Sport Motors Federation, Unicomm Co., Ltd., and Hoa Sen Group.
