Olympics: Norway’s Karsten Warholm breaks world record to win gold in men's 400m hurdles

Norway’s Karsten Warholm shattered his own world record to win the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on August 3.

The new champion only broke the 29-year-old record last month but clocked 45.94 seconds in Tokyo on Tuesday. He took almost a second off his previous world best of 46.70secs set in Oslo at the start of July.

He finished ahead of the USA’s Rai Benjamin (46.17s) and Brazil’s Alison Dos Santos (46.72s) – with both coming inside Kevin Young’s time of 46.78s the American set nearly 30 years ago.

Germany’s Malaika Mihambo takes women’s long jump gold

World champion Malaika Mihambo has added the Olympic title to her collection after jumping 7.00m in the final round of the women's long jump competition at the Tokyo Olympic Stadium on Tuesday (Aug 3).

USA's Brittney Reese who was in the lead up until the final round, added a silver medal to her Olympic tally of gold at London 2012 and silver at Rio 2016 with a jump of 6.97.

Ese Brume emulated her bronze medal at the 2019 world championships, with third place at the Olympic Games after jumping the same distance as Reece. However, Brume dropped behind the American who recorded a longer second-best jump than the Nigerian.

New Zealand's Lisa Carrington has shown why she is the female powerhouse in canoe sprint after finishing a crisp Olympic best time of 38.120 to win gold in the canoe sprint K1 200m event held at Sea Forest Waterway on August 3.

She prompted to an early lead and finished in dominant fashion breaking her own Olympic best time of 38.127 which she just set a few hours earlier before the finals. This is the third straight Olympic title for Carrington in the same event after winning at London 2012 and Rio 2016. She also won bronze in the K-1 500m event in Rio.

A few moments after winning the K-1 200m race, Carrington won Olympic gold again in the Kayak double 500m along with partner Caitlin Regal. Carrington will also have a shot at two more golds as she will be competing in the K-1 500m event tomorrow 4 August and Women's Kayak Four 500m on Saturday 7 August.

Balint Kopasz wins men's single kayak 1000m gold for Hungary

Paddlers Balint Kopasz and Adam Varga won a double victory for Hungary at men's single kayak 1000m event held in the Sea Forest Waterway on August 3.

Kopasz claimed gold after an impressive run and recording an Olympic best time of 3:20.643 whilst Varga took silver at 3:22.431. Portugal's Fernando Pimenta took bronze after clocking a time of 3:22.478.

Cuba's Serguey Torres Madrigal and Fernando Dayan Jorge Enriquez win double 1000m gold

Serguey Torres Madrigal and Fernando Dayan Jorge Enriquez of Cuba won the men's canoe double 1000m gold medal at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 on Tuesday.

The Cuban pair clocked in 3:24.995, a new Olympic best time, beating Liu Hao and Zheng Pengfei of China to second in 3:25.198. Germany’s Sebastian Brendel and Tim Hecker took the bronze in 3:25.615.

Boxing: Samuel Takyi secures bronze, winning Ghana's first Olympic medal since 1992

Samuel Takyi has won a boxing bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Ghana's first podium finish in 29 years, but his incredible Olympic journey came to an end in the Tuesday semi-final at the hands of the USA's Duke Ragan.

With the win, Duke will box for gold in Tokyo, while Takyi returns to Ghana a hero, bringing a bronze with him that represents Ghana's first boxing medal since 1972 and their first in any sport since the football team won bronze at Barcelona 1992.

He joins the pantheon of Ghanaian Olympic boxing greats Clement Quartey, a light welterweight who won silver in Rome 1960, Eddie Blay a bronze light welterweight medallist from Tokyo 1964 and Prince Amartey who made history in Munch 1972.

ROC’s Muslim Gadzhimagomedov reaches heavyweight boxing final

ROC’s Muslim Gadzhimagomedov beat New Zealand’s David Nyika in the men's heavyweight boxing semi-final at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 on August 3 to progress to the gold-medal bout.

Gadzhimagomedov was awarded the fight by a split decision, winning 4-1, on the score cards.

The ROC boxer will fight either Abner Teixeira of Brazil or Julio la Cruz of Cuba in the final. Meanwhile, Nyika receives the bronze medal.

Basketball: Doncic and Dragic deliver as Slovenia stomp by Germany into Olympic semi-finals

Slovenia are into the semi-finals of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after a 94-70 win over Germany in the quarter-finals at the Saitama Super Arena on Tuesday. Slovenia will face the winner of France and Italy in the semi-final, that quarter-final coming up later today.

Zoran Dragic led the scoring for Slovenia with 27 points while Mike Tobey had 13 points and 11 rebounds proving that it isn't all about Luka Doncic. But even when it isn't all about Doncic, it's sort of all about Doncic, who had 20 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds, running the show once more.
